59th RAS B&C Club:

The New Seosomun Park

Meeting Point: Seoul Station (Line 1&4), Exit 3 -- there is a Starbucks if you walk straight 50 meters (although it is cash-free). Once we are gathered we will walk about five minutes to the park.

Starting in 2016, Seosomun Park underwent some massive changes. The park previously had a few attractions, including a Catholic martyr shrine and a statue of Yi Sun-sin, but in time for Pope Francis' visit in 2014 it was decided to create a "Catholic tourism belt" of sites related to Catholicism and martyrdom in Seoul.

The park and its underground parking garage were excavated, and a massive underground complex was created which opened earlier this year. The new facility contains art, memorials, and historic information on four underground levels.
