“The Court Dancer” by Kyung-sook Shin

The November meeting of the Club will be held on Thursday, November 29, starting at 7 pm, in the basement of the North Terrace book-cafe 서울시 종로구 율곡로 10길 12,  (12 Yulgokno 10 gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul), opposite the main gate of Changdeok-gung palace.

We are going to discuss a full-length novel, “The Court Dancer” by Kyung-sook Shin. Please be sure to have read the whole book before coming! Reviews can help think more deeply:

We hope that many will come to this meeting.

In the coming months we expect to be discussing some of the newest translations to have been published: “At Dusk” or “Familiar Things” by Hwang Sok-yong; “One Hundred Shadows” or “I'll Go On” by Hwang Jungeun; “Human Acts” by Han Kang; “The Underground Village” by Kang Kyeong-ae; “City of Ash and Red” by Hye-Young Pyun; “The Plotters” by Un-su Kim; “Wolves” by Jeon Sungtae; “A Greater Music” by Bae SuAh etc.

These books are all published overseas but are (or hopefully will be) available in Seoul bookstores. Each being a full-length novel, preparation for the meeting will take longer but the discussion can be correspondingly rich. Please tell us if there is a recently published translation of a Korean novel that you would especially recommend.
