SUMMARY:

Over the past few years, Korean TV series have become more successful than ever before in the history of entertainment and visual representations. This phenomenon is linked to the emergence of international streaming platforms and the increase in budgets and ambitions. Let us mention in particular Netflix, but also Disney+, Amazon or Apple tv. How are these new Korean series with international distribution different from the old local series? From the point of view of form and themes, we will try to describe what series such as “Squid Game”, “Hellbound”, “All of Us Are Dead” or “Money Heist Korea” introduce into Korean audiovisual representations of interest to an international audience. We will also mention the beginning of a demotion with series like “Pachinko” or “D.P” and the beginning of local platforms.
