Summary:
Korea’s struggle with race is a different beast. The first generation of half-Koreans encapsulated the heart of Korea’s racism and the way they were treated is the revelation of Korea’s racism. Who now is creating the narratives when we talk about mixed Koreans? Will we be rejected, like in the past? Lose our identity in the dismissal of differences? Let’s openly talk about Korea’s inevitable diversification, what that means, how our fight with discrimination is unique and how the story of half-Koreans is at the foundation. Photojournalist Lee Jae Gab, who first captured the images of half-Koreans after the war, heard these final words from his friend on his deathbed: make sure they remember there were half-Koreans like us. These are the words Becky remembers as she tells their stories.

Speaker Bio:
Though Becky’s job titles have spanned everything from magazine editor to fashion model, the thread that weaves through all her work is the love of telling a good story and a creative challenge. She is a multi-faceted artist, working as a producer for the Skycedi Media team, a videographer for the organization ‘Korean American Story’ and a voice actress. Her most well-known title is the creator and director of the Halfie Project youTube channel and podcast – a part-research, part-art project that is dedicated to exploring, studying and archiving the experiences of mixed Koreans, ethnically or culturally, around the world.
