The museum, located alongside the north-south Korail line, was founded in 1988. Its main hall has two floors. The first floor tells the history of the Korean railroad from the inauguration of the first line, running between Seoul and Incheon, in 1897 to the advent of the KTX and beyond. We can see steam engines and rolling stock, re-assembled stations and related paraphernalia, timetables and other documents, and lots of models. Also, there are stories from history, including from the Korean War. A star attraction is a magnificent diorama hall with operating miniature replicas of almost every kind of train that has run in Korea from the slowest to the swiftest. The second floor exhibition is more technical, showing signaling and communication equipment, different kinds of tracks, a level crossing, a KTX operating room, as well as uniforms and tickets.

The extensive outdoor exhibition has over 20 locomotives, steam, Diesel and electric, coaches and construction vehicles. They include trains used by presidents (both Korean and US) and by the UN Forces Commander.

We will meet outside Uiwang Station (Line 1), Exit 2 at 12.30. The museum is about 10 minutes’ walk from the station. Admission is 2,000 won (1,000 won for concessions, or for everyone if the group is 20 or more). The visit should take up to two and a half hours.

** As our excursion leaders are often too focused on leading to take photos of their own tours, we hope that you will consider sharing with us a few photos from the excursion, or write a sentence or two about your experience that we could use in the future promotional efforts on behalf of the society.  Any quotes, photos, videos, or other material would be used with attribution.
