SUMMARY:

The presenter had many chances to drink various German craft beers while studying MBA in Germany from 2003 to 2005. Even when he returned to Korea after his study, he has been enjoying a variety of imported beers from Germany, Belgium, the United Kingdom, the United States and so on.

In 2012, a Seoul correspondent of The Economist, Daniel Tudor wrote the article, “the South Korean beer is less tasty than Taedonggang Beer of North Korea”, and one year later, he co-founded the Booth, a chain of craft beer pubs in Seoul. After reading the article, the presenter became interested in Korean craft beers. Since then, he has been leading a series of walking beer tours such as ‘The Jeong-dong Imperial Route Walking Beer Tour’, ‘The Naksan City Wall Walking Beer Tour’, ‘The Suseong-dong Valley & Inwangsan City Wall Walking Beer Tour’, ‘The old Gangnam Style Walking Beer Tour’, etc., together with members of the Royal Asiatic Society Korea and the Alumni Network of German and Korea.

Executing those series of walking beer tours, he got insight on the Diversity and inclusion concept from the Korean beer’s culture and story. Then, he has given numerous lectures on the theme of “The Story of Diversity and Inclusion of Korean Craft Beers” at FKI International Management Institute, Korea & German Alumni Network, Dosan Academy, and other organizations.

In this lecture, the speaker, Mr. Y.K. SHIN will share not only general information about craft beers in Korea, Germany, and the United States, but also relevant questions to be received from participants during his walking beer tours. Those questions are included; ‘Can you identify Lager and Ale beer by its color?’, ‘Have all dark beers always strong degree?’, ‘Why prefer Europeans to drink beers without side dishes?’, and ‘Can you predict people’s political style through their favorite beer?’.
