Happy 122nd Birthday Royal Asiatic Society Korea

Dear members and friends,

RAS will have a grand re-opening celebration!
All are welcome: members, friends, first-timers. There is no charge.
Come as you are. This is a summer-time casual event.

DATE & TIME: Satuday, June 11, 2022. 10:00AM ~ 4PM.
VENUE: First floor, (historic) Korea Christian Building (한국기독교회관), 19 Daehak-no, Jongno-gu, Seoul (a short walk from Exit 2 of Jongno-5-ga Station (Line 1))

Come and enjoy camaraderie, special events including traditional music, poetry reading, and a walking tour of the history-rich neighborhood. The former home of ROK president Rhee Seung-man is nearby; the home and church of one of RAS Korea’s founders, James Scarth Gale, is across the street. You can also visit our library and book salesroom on the 6th floor.

• Opening Ceremony, with a welcome from HE Colin Crooks, Honorary President of RAS Korea and Her Britannic Majesty’s Ambassador
• Presentation of High School Essay Contest Awards

11:00 AM ~

• Poetry readings by Brother Anthony, President Emeritus of RAS Korea
• Collaborative performance of music with coffee and tea by Soprano Seri Baek, Tea Brewer Yohee Yun, and Coffee Master Danny Park

11:30 PM ~

• Musical performance (Gayageum & Pansori) by Prof. Jocelyn Clark
• Musical performance (Daegeum & Ocarina) by Park Honam & Choi Hyesoon

2:00 PM ~

• Walking tour of the historic neighborhood, led by Jihoon Suk

*All-day event:

• Specially roasted and brewed coffee by Coffee Master Brian Park
• Special Book Sales

*Paid parking is available at the building; streetside parking in the neighborhood might be available.
